I bet that not everyone knows that fencing jackets are reinforced with Kevlar fibers - like a bulletproof vest. This prevents the fencing foil from puncturing the jacket and harming the fencer.

This was news to me until just recently. I figured that a fencing jacket was indeed constructed of a thick material, but Kevlar? That’s just cool!

It has to be extremely hot, I would think - since the athlete wears a shirt, the fencing jacket, fencing breeches, socks and fencing shoes, as well as the ubiquitous fencing helmet - very hot indeed.

Still, fencing is a great all-body workout and excellent for keeping limber as well.
