In May 2007, Barnett left the Ascot Racecourse in 2007, a new managing director was appointed to Aintree Racecourse. The new MD actually used to race at the racecourse and could certainly give people some grand national tips of his own. He worked at the Aintree Racecourse himself for three years in the early 90s. He said that his passion for Aintree had increased since coming back to work as MD and his senses had come alive. The new MD was actually the managing director of  Kempton Park racecourse in Sunbury in 2002 and was able to oversee the construction of a new all-weather track there.
