Why do other countries drive on the opposite side of the road?
Autos July 27th. 2008, 4:13amAs I was learning about other countries and some of their cultures and practices in school, I was surprised to learn that a lot of other countries drive their vehicles on the left side of the road and use lhd vehicles. Left hand drive vehicles are not too common in the US, but are occasionally seen. I always wondered why these other countries did things “backward”? Or is it us who does things backward? I don’t know the answer to that. But I do know that once I learned to drive, I had trouble trying to picture everything reversed in the “cockpit”, especially using my left hand to shift. Are the pedals reversed, too? It would be weird using the right foot to break and the left to give more gas. To each their own!
