Of all the drums in the world, frame drums are among the oldest and most versatile. Most cultures have some type of frame drum in their repertoire of musical instruments. Because they are easily crafted and made of the elements that were available to most early cultures, the frame drum is an essential part to most cultural music. To name a few, the Egyptian Riq, the kanjra from South India, and the bodhran of the Celtic regions. Of course the most familiar friend drum to us Westerners is the good old tambourine.
